Around 11pm this evening, Co. 62 (Witmer) was sent to the Conestoga Valley High School on Horseshoe Rd. for the fire alarm. Chief 62 (Kauffman) arrived and discovered a working fire in the maintenance shop on the C side of the building and requested the first alarm plus the working fire assignment. Co. 63 was alerted on the upgrade. Tower 63 hit the street right away and was the first arriving special service unit. The truck split crew sending personnel to the roof to begin opening up while others made entry into the building to conduct a search. Engine 63-3 also made the response and the crew was sent to assist the truckmen on the roof. The fire was knocked quickly but crews spent several hours chasing hidden fire inside the roof area and ventilating heavy smoke from a majority of the large school. The maintenance shop was destroyed and a large portion of the school suffered smoke and soot damage requiring classes to be cancelled Monday and Tuesday. Tower 63 and Engine 633 were on the scene for about 5 hours plus extensive clean up on the tower equipment. Thanks to Lampeter E541 and Strasburg Truck 5 for covering our station. During the evening rush Co. 63, 54 (Lampeter) and 50 (Willow Street) were sent to Lampeter Rd. and Wiker Ave. for a crash with one trapped. E633 arrived and put the tools in service with additional tools and personnel from 54 and 50 working as well. The driver was freed within 15 minutes. Units were on scene for about 45 minutes

For those of you who dont know, every Monday night our volunteers commit around 4 hours of their time to refreshing their skills and checking our equipment, assuring its ready for the next call. Not to mention the hours we put into paperwork, meetings, cleaning, community events, additional training, and the time spent responding to calls (almost 550 for the year so far). These hours add up throughout the year, hours that our members spend away from their families at the fire station, assuring our community is safe at all times of the day. Return the favor of our service and time put into the welfare of our community, by donating and allowing us to continue providing these services. Any and all donations are appreciated greatly and will be put towards something in our department that needs it! To all of our supporting community members, we cannot thank you enough!

Company 63 receives a donation this morning from Servpro Industries, Inc. for $2,000 from a Golf Outing earlier in the year, that company 63 was present for. This donation will help greatly, as any donation would. We'd like to thank the team of ServPro for their support and for their donation to our department!

A well known name and face throughout Lancaster County's Emergency Services, would be the one of Deputy Fire Chief Cory Imler. Cory serves with the Upper Leacock Fire Company and has served in the volunteer fire services here in Lancaster County for most of his life. Recently, Cory has been diagnosed with an advanced stage of a disease called Sarcoidosis, which attacks the organs within the body, causing severe scaring. Lets all give back to Cory for the many times he has given his time and service to the community, and help him continue what he loves doing, helping others.
